The medical procedure was filmed for educational purposes by James May MD, surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Med School. At the time, 1983, the procedure was an example of evolving excellence in micro-surgery. Afterwards, it was presented to the Press, and a short piece was highlighted on The CBS Evening News.
